Cake Pops

picture15Happy Monday everyone!  Mondays are not usually my favorite days…but this particular Monday happens to be my big sister’s birthday!  I wish I could be there to make her a birthday cake, but Texas to Ohio is a bit of a journey for a cake… So instead, I’m making some cake pops, complete with metallic glitter, in honor of her birthday.  I guess I’ll just have to eat one for her too! picture16Today we’re making Grace’s Magic Cookies!  They are a combination of a sugar cookies, confetti cake, and vanilla whoopie pies.  These sandwich cookies would be a great treat for a birthday party, bake sale, or just a midnight snack.  I made a batch of these last night and had to send them to work with my boyfriend because they are addicting! It’s Bon Bon Time…

picture17As some of you may already know, I make custom cakes for clients here in Austin, Texas, which means I make A LOT of buttercream.  Because of that, last week I found myself with a serious surplus of egg yolks in my refrigerator.  I thought about cooking them up as a treat for the dogs, but I think they’re fat enough as is!  So instead I decided to make homemade ice cream. Ciabatta, Ciabatta!

picture18Hi all!  I’m very excited about today’s post.  A friend of mine, who also happens to be the bartender at my favorite local dive bar, opened a food truck recently.  She is just diving into the world of cooking, and let me tell you, her sandwiches are AMAZING.  She is now thinking of serving her sandwiches on ciabatta bread, which just so happens to be one of my absolute favorite sandwich breads!  So obviously I jumped at the opportunity to help out with the testing…mostly so I have a reason eat more brisket (I mean, why else did I move to the south if not for the BBQ?!??).  Now, I’ve made ciabatta bread before, but always with a fancy French bread oven in a commercial kitchen…so here goes the scaled down, at home version! Welcome to my new blog!

Hi all!  I’ve decided to give this whole blogging thing a shot…due partly to my new found free time.  I recently broke my foot (apparently I am just as uncoordinated as I thought), and will be taking some time Picture22away from working as a pastry chef.  Since I can’t go that long without baking (it’s a bit of a stress reliever for me), I am going to continue my baking at home and share it all with you!  If you want to see some of the custom cakes I’ve made for clients here in Austin, take a look at my website.
